Case Study: Manor Woods Elementary School Classroom & Facility Relocation

Location:

  • Rockville, MD

Project Overview:

As part of an HVAC replacement project, Manor Woods Elementary School required the removal, storage, and replacement of classroom and office furniture, contents, and equipment. The move had to be carefully staged to accommodate both construction and the school’s schedule, while ensuring all items remained organized and protected for return.

Execution & Strategy:

HMS provided full-service support with professional supervision, trained movers, and specialized equipment for the safe handling of school materials. The relocation was structured in multiple phases:

  • Phase 1: Packed, removed, and stored contents from 10 classrooms, 8 storage rooms, 10 offices, the gym, music room, and kitchen. Over 1,000 boxes were inventoried and relocated within the school.
  • Phase 2: Packed and removed contents from 32 classrooms, the media center, 21 storage areas, and combination spaces. More than 2,500 boxes were inventoried and safely stored onsite in designated areas.

All items were carefully labeled and inventoried to ensure a seamless return once construction was complete.

Outcome:

  • Successful relocation of 42 classrooms, 31 offices and storage spaces, and specialty areas.
  • 3,500+ boxes packed, inventoried, and stored onsite with no loss or damage.
  • Project completed on schedule, enabling HVAC replacement work to proceed without disruption.

Why It Matters:

This project demonstrates HMS’s expertise in academic relocations, where careful phasing, detailed inventory management, and coordination with contractors are critical. By providing structured planning and skilled crews, HMS ensured Manor Woods Elementary could undergo renovations smoothly, with all classrooms and resources ready to be restored for staff and students
