Case Study: Rock Creek Decommission & Asset Relocation
Time & Location:
- Frederick County, MD
- 2021 (aligned with school transition and facility turnover)
Project Overview:
Hoffberger Moving Services (HMS) partnered with Frederick County Public Schools to support the transition of the “old” Rock Creek School facility.
The project focused on the removal and relocation of excess furniture, equipment, and educational materials from the former school to a centralized FCPS warehouse. This effort was critical in preparing the facility for closure, repurposing, or future redevelopment while preserving valuable assets for reuse across the school system.
Scope of Work:
HMS provided full-service logistics and relocation support, including:
- Removal of furniture, equipment, and surplus contents from the existing school
- Transportation and delivery to the Frederick County Public Schools warehouse
- Use of trained movers and installers for safe handling
- Deployment of specialized equipment to manage a variety of school assets
- On-site professional supervision to coordinate all activities
All services were executed under a structured plan to ensure efficient clearing of the facility while maintaining asset accountability.
Execution & Strategy:
HMS implemented a streamlined approach focused on efficiency, organization, and asset preservation:
- Coordinated removal plan to systematically clear classrooms, storage areas, and common spaces
- Categorization and consolidation of items to ensure organized warehouse delivery
- Efficient loading and transport to minimize handling and reduce risk of damage
- Close coordination with FCPS personnel to align with project timelines and facility requirements
The project emphasized speed and accuracy, ensuring that materials were relocated quickly while remaining usable for future deployment.
Outcome:
- Successful full clearance of the Rock Creek School facility
- Safe and organized transfer of assets to the FCPS warehouse for future reuse
- Streamlined execution minimizing downtime and supporting broader district planning efforts
- Preservation of valuable furniture and equipment, reducing replacement costs
This project highlights HMS’s ability to support school decommissioning, asset recovery, and system-wide logistics, providing value beyond traditional relocations.
